URBAN [R]EVOLUTION
The explosive combination of graffiti, breakdancing, and rapping led to a worldwide eruption of popular expression.
The evolution of the revolution brought the solution of a great street art exhibition called “URBAN (R)EVOLUTION” in Lisbon at the Cordoaria Nacional, curated by the always fantastico Pedro Alonzo, one of THE voices of the urban movement that together with amazing Portuguese artist Vhils and his “underdogs” crew put up this show. Also thanks to him the city of Lisbon flourished in the global urban jungle, and it was a kick&lick inside/out exhibition. Visitors who entered immediately saw the amazing artist MaisMenos – my personal favourite – where in his work he declined the old dream of the establishment to see street art as a commodity showing in a very cynical view how the global market view of street artist where going confirming that the movement after more of fifty years is filtering in the business minds of a capitalistic society that is monitoring all. Utopia as Cash. in the exhibition where a lot of artist which Drago collaborated like Futura, Shepard Fairey, Janette Beckman, Swoon, Felipe Pantone is shining. It was good to be in Lisbon. –Paulo von Vacano, DRAGO Publisher

The Exhibition
Urban(R)Evolution chronicles the fascinating development of urban art, beginning with its early stages as tags, graffiti, and subway pieces, progressing through the influential middle period and, eventually, giving rise to street art. The art form originated with spray paint and wheat paste but quickly evolved to incorporate various techniques from around the globe. The explosive combination of graffiti, breakdancing, and rapping led to a worldwide eruption of popular expression.
