Estevan Oriol is an internationally celebrated professional photographer, director and urban lifestyle entrepreneur. After the success of L.A. Portraits and L.A: Woman, THIS IS LOS ANGELES represents a new chapter in his career. He started off as a hip-hop club bouncer and turned tour manager for popular Los Angeles-based rap groups like Cypress Hill and House of Pain, but Estevan’s passion for photography developed while traveling the world. With an influential nudge and old camera from his father, renowned photographer Eriberto Oriol, Estevan began documenting life on the road and established a name for himself amid the emerging hip-hop scene. He has photographed Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Dennis Hopper, Marissa Miller, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Floyd Mayweather, and Lance Armstrong amongst others.
All this Photos were shots on film, no Photoshop. Old School Baby!
In the age of snap-happy Instagramming, everyone is a photographer. But Estevan is old school. And THIS IS LOS ANGELES is no different. He rejects the age of instant reward and, in a fascinating introduction, details his process of shooting on film. The striking collection is a throwback to a purer photography philosophy. Oriol holds a fine attention to detail, a formidable technique on film, and a retro respect for the craft.
THIS IS LOS ANGELES is the most substantial publication so far from this hugely influential photographer and member of the hip-hop scene. Across 200 pages of supreme quality photographs, the book showcases his most iconic images as well as unseen shots from his archive.
