THE BOOK
Drago is pleased to announce “Sublime cliché,” the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name. This project was promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, and organized by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo with the collaboration of the foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome. This 144-page, bilingual volume represents the third chapter of the Festival of Foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome. It aims to celebrate the strong connection between these institutions and the city, highlighting Rome as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for scholarship holders. The catalogue reaffirms Rome’s international vocation and renews the legacy of the Grand Tour, which for centuries has positioned the Capital as a fundamental place for the cultural and personal education of foreign intellectuals. “Sublime cliché” is curated by Saverio Verini, with texts by Edoardo Albinati and Michele di Monte, and includes contributions from the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the Councilor for Culture of Rome Capital Massimiliano Smeriglio, the President of the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo Marco Delogu, and the curator Saverio Verini. It showcases the significant presence of foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome, a unique feature of the city’s cultural landscape. These entities, through their residency programs, annually bring a diverse community of visual artists, writers, composers, architects, choreographers, designers, historians, and researchers to Rome. This community engages with the city, its history, and its places, reinterpreting them and fostering human and cultural relationships that are reflected in the artistic production created during their residency periods.
