Alice Pasquini: Feminine Street Art

Crossroads, a glimpse into the life of Alice Pasquini is the first anthology on the artist Alice Pasquini, one of the top female international street artists. In over 300 pages, 200 images and a number of original extracts from her sketchbook, Crossroads tells the story and showcases the artwork of Alice Pasquini. Alice is a prolific illustrator, creative designer and painter who has been gifting cities with her artwork for over a decade: through her work, women and children become an integral feature of any urban surrounding. From large artwork – like the wall of the Italian Museum in Melbourne – to small cameos in London or Marseille, Alice’s creativity shines through in every city thanks to her unique style. The images in Crossroads have been taken from photographers the likes of Martha Cooper and Ian Cox. The book is brought together by a foreword from the editor Paulo von Vacano, texts by Jessica Stewart and journalists Nicolas Ballario (Rolling Stones) and Stephen Heyman (New York Times), as well as article extracts by Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo – Co-founders of Brooklyn Street Art [BSA], Serena Dandini, DJ Gruff and Chef Rubio.

Drawing is my means of being a part of the world. – Alice Pasquini

A feminine perspective seen from a feminine eye. And art sits back and watches. For this reason, Alice continues to paint, to climb up the highest walls or to remain with her head bowed in the pages of her inseparable sketchbook, because “she knew she had but to open [her eyes] again, and all would change to the dull reality of adults” as was written in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. – Paulo von Vacano, Looking Through a Different Lens

Defiant and no-holds-barred. From the moment I met Alice, these were characteristics that shone through. Our first encounter was emblematic of what was to become a friendship, then a working relationship, but always a sisterhood. – Jessica Stewart, A Kind of Sisterhood

I am interested in investigating human emotions through my own emotions. There is always a subconscious autobiographical motivation behind the choice of a particular subject or story. – Alice Pasquini

I paint in the locations where I have lived through a story to share with the city and its people, depicting intimate stories in a public space. – Alice Pasquini

Bittersweet, gifted beyond belief, and with a work etiquette that has no off button; these are the characteristics that distinguish Alice and make her a cut above the rest. – Jessica Stewart

Crossroads, a glimpse into the life of Alice Pasquini

Alice Pasquini’s artwork is seen not only on urban surfaces and walls, but also in galleries and museums in more than one hundred different cities around the world.
Alice travels continuously and her preferred canvases are city walls. The Roman artist, both a street artist and painter, has developed different threads in her research, from narrating feminine vitality to manipulating the three-dimensional possibilities of her work. She moves from urban explorations to installations using found materials.
Sydney, New York, Barcelona, Oslo, Moscow, Paris, Copenhagen, Marrakech, Berlin, Saigon, Buenos Aires, Singapore, London, and Rome are some of the cities where her work can be found.
Alice graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and has lived and worked in Great Britain, France, and Spain. While in Madrid she completed coursework in animation at the Ars animación school and, in 2004, obtained an MA in critical art studies at the Universidad Computense.
In 2018, she was commissioned to design the libretti for the 2019/2020 season at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. In 2015 she collaborated with the Tourism and Culture Assessor and the Legality and Coastline Assessor of Rome for the 3D project Under Layers in Ostia. In 2013 she realized a cycle of works for the Capitoline Museums in Rome, which are visible in Piazza Campidoglio, as well as a panel for the Pinacoteca Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea in Gaeta, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in the Museo Italiano, Melbourne (2017), Saatchi Gallery, London (2016); MACRO Contemporary Art Museum in Rome (2014); Tri-Mission Art Gallery, American Embassy, Rome (2013); Galleria d’Arte Provinciale Santa Chiara e alla Galleria Nazionale, Cosenza (2013); Casa dell’Architettura, Rome (2013); Palazzo Candiotti, Foligno (2012); Espace Pierre Cardin, Paris (2012); Mutuo Centro de Arte, Barcelona (2012).
In addition, Alice has completed projects with international clients, such as Canada Goose, Canon, Nike, Range Rover, Toyota, and Microsoft, illustrated the graphic novel Vertigine (Rizzoli, 2011).
Alice and her work have been featured in New York Times International, The Wall Street Journal, l’Espresso, Panorama, Vanity, and many other international publications. In 2016 she was added to the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia.
She taught a cycle of workshops at the Hangar Bicocca in Milan in 2016 and collaborated with FIPAV and ATAC to repaint Rome’s Stazione Due Ponti. She has also collaborated with the Italian Cultural Institute of Singapore (2013), Uruguay (2015), and São Paulo (2019). In 2016 she was tasked with painting the facade of the Museo Italiano in Melbourne, where she also held a solo exhibition.
