Following the success of Muerte, Mike Giant returns to explore fine art, graffiti, and pop culture in his latest book Coup d’Etat. Celebrating the works that he exhibited at the Magda Danysz Gallery in Paris together with his friend and contemporary, Dalek, this collection offers a chance to contemplate a truly unique oeuvre that fuses the taste of the street with the finesse of fine art.
Ink meets street photography
This time, the so-called “Master of Black Ink” displays an evolution of his work as he mixes his stunning iconography with a new passion for photography. “Each of Giant’s drawings seems to be a great intake of breath in which he once again finds his concentration,” writes Magda Danysz, “even as his soul, rich in life and experience, continues to move as inspiration stirs it.”

Mike Giant achieved fame as a graffiti artist, illustrator, and tattooist. Black ink is Giant’s speciality and whether his medium is concrete, paper or skin, his signature style – inspired by Mexican folk art and Japanese illustration – is unmistakable. Mike Giant has worked in many different mediums covering graffiti, design, fine art, street photography, and tattooing, making him one of the most celebrated and versatile artists of his generation.
