Change and Horizons
Change and Horizontals is the catalogue of the renowned global exhibition of the same name that showcased the masterpieces of Turner prize nominee, Sean Scully. The exhibition was on display at numerous leading galleries and museums around the world including the Timothy Taylor Gallery in London, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, the Walter Storms Gallery in Munich, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome and the The Drawing Center in New York.
“People tend to think of abstraction as abstract. But nothing is abstract: it’s a self-portrait. A portrait of one’s condition.” – Sean Scully
Stunning geometric patterns
The book showcases an extensive collection of the Irish artist’s most iconic paintings and drawings and even includes previously unpublished extracts from his personal sketchbook. At this early stage of his career, Scully’s works are dominated by stunning geometric patterns of vertical and horizontal lines decorated in grey, sky-blue and green tones, echoing the brilliance of Mark Rothko and Giorgio Monrandi.

Accompanying these eye-catching pieces are several insightful critical texts, written in Italian, by Peter Benson Miller, Joanne Kleinberg, Brett Littman and Maria Giuseppina di Monte. Also included is a fascinating short story by Colm Toìbìn.
