From February 9th to 28th Wunderkammern Gallery presents INSIDE, a solo show by Orticanoodles.
INSIDE is a path of introspective research undertaken by Orticanoodles in which their works are in dialogue with the most important pieces of the sculptor Francesco Messina.

Realized starting from stenciling and dusting, techniques already experimented on walls, the works of INSIDE are the natural evolution of the public art works realized by Orticanoodles over the years. They are made using the juxtaposition of strips of wood, called “codes”, a technique that allows the interweaving of anatomical details and urban scenarios, thus assuming a monumental character.

Orticanoodles was born from the encounter between Walter Contipelli “Wally” (Carrara,1977) and Alessandra Montanari “Alita” (Milano, 1975). It took its first steps on the walls of Milan through the stencil technique and it gained success thanks to its technical ability and experimental approach. In 2004, Orticanoodles was part of the TSO crew. The first image related to the artistic duo and spread either through stickers or stencil on posters, represents a face who’s look stares on high and which observers can associate with the icon of Christ, even if the close cut and absence of symbols humanize the figure. From the initial experimentations, the group’s name was born which today identifies a much larger production group, that became a factory for curatorial and artistic projects for other artists. The name Orticanoodles derives from the invasive plant Ortica (Nettle) and from the name of the neighbourhood “Ortica”, in which the collective is based. Around 2006, besides Christ, many other images have been associated with the duo and have become the subjects of their first paintings: the frog, the thorny heart and the fork with stinging noodles are some of the most famous. Thanks to stencils they created a pop image which expresses itself mainly through iconic portraits.

Orticanoodles obtained international recognition thanks to their virtuous use of stencils, and were invited to participate at the Cans Festival, organized by Banksy (London 2008) and Stencil HistoryX(Paris 2008). In 2010 the Itinerrance gallery in Paris organized a solo show for Orticanoodles and they also participated to a collective stencil exhibition at Mart in Rovereto, whereas in 2013 the group participated to the Tour-Paris 13 exhibition, in Paris. Amongst private companies which commissioned Orticanoodles there are ENI, Allianz, Credit Agricole, Cariparma, Biffi, Boston Consulting. Orticanoodles have also made art pieces in several Italian cities, besides Milan, such as Bologna, Carrara, Napoli, Lecco,Massa, Mantova, Catania, Verona. They have also worked in Djerba in Tunisia, portrayed Joseph Beuys in Dusseldorf, Gilberto Gil in Rio de Janeiro, and moreover worked in Amsterdam, Misurata, Pechino, Rosenthal. The Allianz tower in Milan entered the Guinness World Record thanks to its nearly 3 square kilometre mural wall, entirely painted by Orticanoodles. The group from 2011 attended several participatory art projects, recognising the importance of actively involving the people who live in areas interested by street art. Orticanoodles recognizes itself in a logic of inclusion and plural thinking,away from individualistic thought.
