Williamsburg is destined to become one of the more visited areas of Brooklyn this summer, as the Beyond the Streets exhibition opens to the public tomorrow, Thursday, June 21^st and runs through August. This premiere and much anticipated event champions graffiti, street art and urban subculture, and celebrates the many artists who catapulted street art into a veritable movement.

Urban localities became the canvases that provided street artists opportunities to express social and political dissent, and to elevate the underrepresented culture and values of the African American and Latino communities.

The art space houses a kaleidoscopic collection of colorful graphics that are interlaced with sharp black and white photographs. There are playful installations that compete for attention, with thought-provoking graffiti messages left by anonymous authors.

Street Art celebrates humanity: it relays the narratives of our varied ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, and classes. Beyond the Streets promotes this art form in all of its genres and manifestations.
